My Passion: An Inclusive Classroom
"It seems that the biggest problem for individuals with disabilities is how they are treated by others. It is important to not just accept that individuals with disabilities are in the schools and communities, but that they are capable of productivity and a quality of life much like other people." This idea captures what I view as one of the benefits and goals of an inclusive classroom. An understanding that all children bring something meaningful and worthy to the class, that all benefit from the friendships formed and the care given. If we are to create a society that encourages, helps, shares, and endures together than we must take a step, embrace all differences, acknowledge all strengths, share in all weaknesses, and live a life created for all. I believe this begins with the youngest of our people and through them we learn to play, explore, and live freely.
